[ mood | cheerful ]

Wow I can't believe there is other pinballers out there in the world! This is so refreshing...Personally I've never been much of a fan of video games I'm more of a hands on kind of person...Has anyone here ever play the Cactus Canyon pinball game?...it's pretty awesome.

beer--pinball--and exercisms [02 Mar 2005|02:39pm]

hey chicago pin-folk,

another outing will be held at the bucktown pub, 7PM on 03/13/05. the table of the evening will be dirty hairy. below is what regular had to say about the table:

> very inflated scoring. replay starts at 220 million, incases by 110 million per replay.
> the playfield is fairly level, takes some work to build speed.
> very sensitive to tilts.
> really fun, accommodating to so many differnet skills.
> It does this thing called "midnight madness" that i've never seen before. it seems if you're playing at midnight, it starts going CRAZY with points! it's like a X10 bonus for everything, it's nuts!
> in great condition, overall.

when looking for directions, i happened to learned that the place is haunted. so this could explain the midnight freakout...anyone else interested in an exercism? nothing says fun like shaking rafters!

here's a link for directions:

info request [26 Feb 2005|01:44pm]

Hello folks, I'm looking for some help. My brother has a 1946 Bally Surf Queen, in partially dismantled condition. Due to circumstances, he's looking to sell it, but we're having trouble finding much information on it, let alone what it may be worth.
Can anyone point in the direction of a good source or two to find out more? It is a pretty nifty table, and I think he'll be sad to see it go.
Thanks in advance for any help!

the task of creating a regional guide [23 Nov 2004|12:01pm]

so i was trying to think of ways to create a guide (paper or net based...not sure yet) and thought of contacting repair people for locations they may service. or mentioning that i'm interested in creating a list to see if any of the table owners would want to list their tables. but the more i think of it, most of the places one finds tables are generally convenient stores and laundrymats (aside from bars). not the types of places that care one way or another. alot of these placer don't appear keen on groups of people loitering. (found this out at the movie theatre on sheridan in rogers park. they are fine if i go in myself w/o buying a ticket, but when i go with friends, they chase us out).

another problem is that why would the repair people assist with this. probibly to time consuming on thier part. and alot of the above mentioned types of businesses are not keen on groups of people loitering. (found this out at the movie theatre on sheridan in rogers park. they are fine if i go in myself, but when i go with friends, they chase us out).

argh, the more i think about it my three frustrations are:
1) my solo pursuit, on foot, continues to yielding less than desirable results and
2) i don't have much experience in compiling these types of things.
3) to much of the internet stuff=dead links. (wish i could have seen the chicagopinball page before it went inactive).

anyone have pointers or things to consider when putting together something like this?

there is problems with your game if... [17 Nov 2004|12:37pm]

so i've had the notion to make a pinball t-shirt for some time. the front graphic, irrelevant. the back would have a list called something like "you know you aren't playing right if:" (still tweaking it).

anyhoo, some of the things that come to mind are along these lines:

* the table is in the same location as where you started playing the game.
* you don't have a large bruise somewhere above your knee from moving the table around.
* your digits don't feel like they are swolen or going to fall off the next day.
* you don't use more than the flippers.

any one else care to add to this?

[16 Nov 2004|03:08pm]

hi, saw the comments about expo in chicago. know this post is late (expo over) but i am searching for pinheads in the chicago/midwest area for possible league or even a pin/pub crawl. (prefer the electromechanical). considering this is/once was a pinball manufacturing hub, it's really disapointing to see the absence of pinball options in the area. any locals i should check out when the expo is not in town?

i've also heard rumors about william's or bally's beta testing with pin heads. any truth to this? first heard about it out west a few years ago.

oh, sorry that this was originally posten in the comments secion. i'm new to this lj stuff, and i the help(less) directories are sort of confusing. just figured out how to post to the communities.

Another reason why bars are good [14 Aug 2004|02:13am]

In response to my last post I just remembered that the bar next door to my apartment (Mortimer's in MPLS) has three machines (South Park, Ripley's Believe It or Not!, and Lord of the Rings) all in pretty good condition. So while playing Ripley's this guy starts talking to me about pinball and his personal collection, etc. He also told me about the Twin Cities Pinball Enthusiasts which gets together around town plays for fun. There's also a Twin Cities Pinball Database which lists which machines are around town and where to find them.
But, what really captured my heart was when he told me about the 20th annual Pinball Expo in Chicago which boasts the PINBRAWL (pinball world championships) plus pinball art, speakers, workshops, etc. Apparently it's really cheap to get in, maybe in the $10 range and the contests are open to the public with cash prizes. I drooled at the site. How come nobody told me about this before? But a better question is who wants to come with me?

when you live in a one machine town [13 Aug 2004|04:18pm]

Does anyone in Minneapolis know why they took out Simpsons Pinball Party at the CC Club? They're down to just one Mid-evil Madness machine that needs to be fixed. Is the First Avenue the only place that has more than two games now? Now that I don't work 80 hours a week I need a place to go. Whatever happened to Pop's Arcade?
